Summer Lovin' Read-a-thon Update #3 and My Favourite Fictional Female

Look at me, I'm Sandra Dee

Hi Bookaholics,

Today I return to the schedule of the read-a-thon and discuss my favourite female book character.

Let me just say it was literally the hardest thing ever to choose my favourite so I just ended up choosing one I really adored.

My Favourite Fictional Female is...
(Picture isn't mine)
Alison Dilaurentis

From the Pretty Little Liars series obviously I enjoy the parts with her in most in the books and the show.

The reason I chose Alison is that she's just so bitchy but humourous at the same time.

She's the ultimate definition of popularity yet no one ,not even her friends, truly knows the real her.

Now let's see how my progress is for the read-a-thon :

 Update #3

I finished the last 16 pages of Nancy Drew Files #7 - Deadly Doubles by Carolyn Keene yesterday evening and tried to read J-17 - Double Love by Jacqui Deevoy  but it wasn't satisfying so I only read the first chapter.

Last night I also began reading the first book in one of my all time favourite series' Magenta #1 - Magenta Orange. I'm re-reading it so I can read Magenta #3 - Magenta Goes Green which I haven't read before. Currentley I'm on page 94.

Going to try and finish Magenta #1 - Magenta Orange tonight -probably won't though - and if I do I'll be reading the Lovephobia manga which won't take long.

Plan on reading - 19:30pm - 22:00pm.

Thank you for reading this post !
If you enjoyed please Follow me, Comment, Friend me on Goodreads (the link is in the sidebar to my account) and Read my other posts (if you haven't already).

Any Post suggestions ?
Leave me a Comment below of your idea and I'll take it into consideration

Are you participating in the read-a-thon as well?
Please leave a Comment below telling me how much progress you're making

See you tomorrow,
Mimi

Library Lovelies and Riveting Reservations #1

"I have always imagined that Paradise will be a kind of library"

Welcome to my new segment readers,

During this post I will show you my library lovelies  - books that I've borrowed from one of the local libraries - and riveting reservations - books that weren't available at the library I go to so I've pestered for them to be sent to my library so I can read them. Also it's basically just an excuse to write about my adoration of libraries.

I went quite psycho Today with the amount I checked out because I'm off school next week therefore I'll have more devouring time. It's only my second time visiting this particular library (I'm a member of 3 - My District library, Nearby District Library and my School Library) the Nearby District library so I have plenty of options to choose from.

The previous time I visited it I didn't notice that it had a self-service machine. Today was the first time I'd ever encountered them - it certainly saves my books from not being scanned properly by ditsy librarians but has me worried about my hopeful career as a librarian.

Riveting Reservations

This section will be complied in to three categories - Arrived (books I reserved but are now ready to collect) , In Transit (when they've sent the book to my library but it hasn't arrived yet) and Reserved (when they've not done anything regarding my reservation).

Arrived

Dream on by Steve Barlow and Steve Skidmore - Arrived at My District Library on the 21st

In Transit

Megastar Mysteries #5 - Honeydale by Annabelle Starr - Labelled as In Transit as of Today coming to My District Library

Reserved

Miss Peregrines home for peculiar children by Ransom Riggs - Reserved on January 18th 2013 coming to My District Library

Diary of a mall girl by Luisa Plaja - Reserved on May 18th 2013 coming to My District Library

Pretty little liars #7 - Heartless by Sara Shepard - Reserved Today coming to the Nearby District Library

Pretty Little Liars #8 - Wanted by Sara Shepard - Reserved Today coming to the Nearby District Library

Steady Beat #1 (Manga) by Rivkah - Reserved Today coming to the Nearby District Library

Library Lovelies

Animal Academy #1 by Hakobune Hakusho

This library has a colossal Manga section (6 shelves full) therefore I'll be reading a lot more from this genre now.

I picked this one up before some of the others because of it's plot - a normal girl enrols in a school for shape-shifters.

The reason I love these books is that they're so adorable, pretty and quick reads.

Interested in this book ? Click here for more information : http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6096134-animal-academy

Koihime Soushi by Koge-Donbo

Another Manga but this time a romance centring around a girl with the ability to galvanise people to love her.

Interested in this book ? Click here for more information :

Wrong Number by Chloe Rayban

The author of this book wrote  a series that I own called the Justine Duval/Wild Child series which I plan to read in June.

Therefore when I noticed this 70 page quick read I thought I'd see if I enjoyed her writing style.

It sounds so sweet - it's about a girl who receives a call from boy who has dialled a wrong number and starts falling in love with him.

The catastrophic history of you and me by Jess Rothenberg

I've been extremely excited for this book since it was released last autumn.

Who wouldn't adore a book with a pretty cover, creative title and a plot line to die for ?

Interested in this book ? Click here for more information :

Undone by Cat Clarke

Similarly to the previous book listed, I've been awaiting the opportunity to read this novel.

The plot is simple yet intriguing - an investigation of her best friends death - but the length (500 pages) supplies that there's depth to the story.

Interested in this book ? Click here for more information : http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/16036975-undone?ac=1

The Celebutantes #1 - On the avenue by Antonio Pagliarulo

A Goodreads reviewer described this as Nancy Drew (which I love) + Gossip Girl (which I loved the t.v show of and plan to finally read the book series of in September) + Pretty Little Liars (which words can not express how much I love) so if that's true this maybe the best book ever !

The plot line sounds amazing and I've never read a book about triplets before.

Prophecy of the sisters by Michelle Zink

A horror-themed book about twins sound like something utterly unmissable and was recommended to me on Goodreads.

What books have you got/reserved from the library recently?
Please Comment them or do your own Library Lovelies and Riveting Reservations post and remember to state that the idea belongs to me.

Hopefully I'll Post tomorrow and not repeat what has happened for the previous fortnight,

Review- Pretty little liars #6 Killer by Sara Shepard

Greetings again reader,
Today I finally write for you my first review of Pretty Little Liars #6 Killer.Spoiler Alerts will be forewarned.
Enjoy!!!!

Book Name : Killer
Series : #6 in Pretty Little Liars series
Author : Sara Shepard
Page count : 268 pages
Time Spent Reading : 5th May - 8th May
Review:

Borrowed from the library this book bizarrely  took me double the time it should have taken (2 days) to devour : however this doesn't mean I didn't adore it.

Continuing on directly from the concluding scene in the previous book (Wicked) this book revolves around what happens to the liars lives after the discovery on the final page aka some psycho stuff.

The plot line now has completely diverted from the show and contains copious unaired flashbacks.

*FOR DETAIL ON THE PLOT READ THE SPOILER ALERTS LISTED BELOW! READ IF YOU DARE -A*

Firstly, things that happened that don't have anything do with Alison's murder and -A ...

Spencer's family are being complete devils throughout this book. Her own grandmother excludes her from her will and her car being taken away for a non-plausible reason - Seriously? So she tries to find out if she's adopted and gets scammed by the women she believed to be her birth mother -Spencer's entire college savings has been stolen. Also she hooks up with Andrew for a while but it doesn't last for long. I felt most sympathetic to Spencer's plot during this book because everything that could go wrong in her life did.

Aria meets another older man/potential love interest but unfortunately he's already taken before she can bestow her love upon him - BY HER MOTHER!!!!!!!! That doesn't stop said love interest though and there's an array of creepy 'love' scenes between them before she moves in with her father and Meredith again. To forget her problems with the creep she decides to try and spawn a relationship with Jason Dilaurentes - BIG MISTAKE -  to try make her 6th Grade fantasies a reality. Predictably it doesn't work out as there's a series of scary angry Jason moments that ruin their possible chances of a relationship.

In other Aria related news, Hanna is competing against her spiteful step-sister Kate for Aria's Brother's ,Mike's, affection.Hanna wins but Kate doesn't care because it all turned out to be a ploy to get Hanna back for the Herpes rumour (in Wicked).Hanna had the most lacking storyline as this was all that really happened.

Emily confused me characterisation wise the most in this book because suddenly her sexuality changed - she went from kissing a girl in a photo booth to sleeping with a guy, named Issac, she'd only known for like 2 weeks. They break up shortly afterwards and to be honest Emily's not that it bothered her because Issac had a psycho mother who wanted to see her dead

Now it's to analyse what I believe is the most crucial part of the whole story - what we learnt about Alison's murder in the order we discovered it.

First the flashback at the start -that was already partially revealed in book #5 Wicked- where a mysterious crash occurred and 'Ali' was rapidly whisked off in a car after quickly talking to the girls explaining about the Time Capsule piece. I think the crash was Alison protesting about
*SPOILER ALERT IF YOU HAVEN'T READ WANTED DON'T READ THE REST OF THIS PARAGRAPH* having to visit her twin sister Courtney (I read a spoiler years ago about this so I know) again and why she was whisked away in the car. This is also why when Emily found that sign in book at the Cavalier dance that the visits Jason made stopped after this date.

It's also hinted at the end of that flashback that Alison's piece of the time capsule flag has something about her murder on it. Unfortunately I don't think we'll be able to learn what was on the flag because (right at the end of the book) ,when Aria had it in her back pocket, she fell so I think it will have fallen out and been burnt by the Barn Fire.

When Spencer saw somebody in the woods and thought it was Melissa I definitely think it was Alison.

I don't have a clue why Jason and Jenna were arguing but I have a feeling it's important.

When Aria asks Jason to go to The Radley dance I know that he gets all freaked out because *SPOILER ALERT IF YOU HAVEN'T READ WANTED DON'T READ THE REST OF THIS PARAGRAPH* he used to visit Courtney there.

I'm really confused at why -A has only been targeting Spencer and Emily. I think -A is Melissa because she seems to have secrets about the time Alison was alive and of course she'd want to target Spencer.

Hanna sees Alison again in a dream (why is it always only Hanna?) and receives all these seemingly cryptic clues from her. When she works them out they turn out to all point the finger to the Murderer of Alison being Jason and Wilden.

The scene at the end where Alison -Or is it?- reveals herself to the girls came as a shock to me as I don't see how the story can pan out for 6 or so other books now. But I guess that's the thing about Rosewood - there's always more secrets.

*SPOILER FREE FROM NOW ONWARDS -A*

The ending of this book has left me yearning for Heartless like someone who's drowning yearns for air it's my definite 2nd favourite of the series (after Unbelievable) so far therefore I'm granting it :

5 out of 5 stars

Book Haul #1

Happy Bank Holiday Monday Everyone,

Hopefully yours has been as eventful as mine!

Today I ventured to one of the nearby towns for a charity shop expedition and purchased this terrific trio.

The weather was my favourite style today- heatwave hot and sunny- therefore I decided to shoot the photos outside to take advantage of this glorious climate.

These books are slightly pricier than I would've preferred to pay (I normally buy books from 10p!!! - £1) but I simply couldn't pass these up! In addition I usually get considerably more (at least 7) books on these trips however I'd only gone to this town last month so the stock was pretty familiar.

Just Listen by Sarah Dessen £1.50 in British Heart Foundation

I've heard a copious amount of amazing reviews on the authors supposedly splendid works so hopefully she'll live up to the hype.I plan on reading all of her works during the Summer time so this will grant me easier access to one of those books.

Also I love these covers a lot more than the American versions because I feel the illustrations are expressing without words what the plot revolves around.

If you want to know more about this novel read this : http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1046475.Just_Listen

Pretty Little Liars 3 - Perfect by Sara Shepard £2.49 in Oxfam

I'd actually seen this the last time I visited this shop but back then according to one of my library service's website it was 'Avaidible' unfortunately , when I actually needed to read it, their suddenly was 'No availability records for this item'. I almost had a Breakdown and had no choice but to skip it.

I'm now on book 6 in the series Killer (review will most likely appear tomorrow) and I still regret never being able to read it in order to the fact PLL has become one of my superlative series's.

Therefore when I read up to number 8 Wanted (the last book my library service has) I'll read this. I prefer the American cover (I'm obsessed with doll covers) but unfortunately they're not available here in the UK.

If you want to know more about this novel read this :

North of Beautiful by Justina Chen Headley £2.49 in Oxfam

I wasn't to sure about buying this book upon first glance - the covers pretty much the usual YA format (minus the compass) and the plot line is that of a typical contemporary - but there's just something promising about it.
The romance idea sounds pretty awesome too - Smart girl and Goth boy - but I'm still quite uncertain about this.
If you want to know more about this novel read this :
